Ingredients

Scale

For the Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 ½ lbs lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 3 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For the Cheese Mixture:

  • 15 oz whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

For Assembly:

  • 1 box San Giorgio® Lasagna noodles (16 oz), cooked
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Boil Noodles: Cook San Giorgio lasagna noodles per box instructions. Drain and lay flat on parchment to prevent sticking.
  • Make Sauce: In a deep skillet, sauté garlic and onion in olive oil until soft. Add ground beef, brown, and drain excess fat. Stir in tomato paste; cook 1 min. Add crushed tomatoes, sauce, broth, and seasonings. Simmer uncovered for 15–20 min until thick.
  • Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, and parsley. Mix until smooth.
  • Layer Lasagna: In a greased 9×13″ dish, spread 1 cup of meat sauce. Layer noodles, ⅓ of ricotta, and mozzarella. Repeat twice. Finish with noodles, remaining sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
  • Bake: Cover with foil. Bake at 375°F for 30 min. Uncover and bake 15–20 min until golden and bubbling.
  • Rest & Serve: Let rest 15 min before slicing. Serve warm.
