This classic Mrs. Cubbison’s stuffing recipe is golden, buttery, and herb-packed — the ultimate holiday side dish everyone craves.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Stuffing:

  • 1 package (12 oz) Mrs. Cubbison’s Seasoned Dressing (Classic or Traditional Herb)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups diced celery (34 stalks)
  • 1 1/2 cups finely chopped onion (1 large)
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups chicken broth (low-sodium preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 2 eggs, beaten (optional, for binding)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional Add-ins:

  • Cooked sausage crumbles
  • Sautéed mushrooms
  • Dried cranberries or diced apples
  • Toasted pecans or walnuts

Instructions

  • Sauté Vegetables: Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add celery and onion; sauté for 7–8 minutes until tender and fragrant. Do not brown.
  • Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, add Mrs. Cubbison’s dressing mix. Pour in sautéed veggies. Add sage, thyme, pepper, and salt. Gradually mix in broth until moist but not soggy. Stir in eggs if using.
  • Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13″ baking dish. Spread stuffing evenly, cover with foil. Bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 15–20 minutes until golden on top.
  • Serve & Garnish: Sprinkle chopped parsley on top. Serve warm from the dish or in individual ramekins.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, use vegetable broth and skip meat.
  • Store in the fridge up to 4 days or freeze for 2 months.
  • Reheat in oven with broth to retain moisture, or pan-fry for crisp edges.
  • Add-ins like sausage, mushrooms, or fruit add texture and flavor depth.
