Description

This cheesy, ranch-loaded chicken tater tot casserole is the ultimate comfort food — easy, hearty, and crowd-pleasing.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients:

  • 4 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie or poached)
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise or plain Greek yogurt

Flavor Add-Ins:

  • 1 packet dry ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (plus more for topping)
  • 1 cup cooked turkey bacon, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Topping:

  • 1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots

Optional Additions:

  • 1 cup steamed broccoli or chopped spinach
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (for garnish)
  • A pinch of crushed red pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and place it on a baking sheet.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine chicken, soup, sour cream, mayonnaise or yogurt, ranch seasoning, cheddar, bacon, pepper, and optional garlic powder.
  • Stir until well mixed and creamy. Fold in optional vegetables if using.
  • Spread mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Arrange frozen tater tots on top in a single layer.
  • Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, until tots are golden and casserole is bubbling.
  • Sprinkle extra cheese on top in last 5 minutes of baking. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use frozen tater tots for best results; do not thaw.
  • Customize with veggies like broccoli or mushrooms.
  • To lighten up, use Greek yogurt, reduced-fat cheese, and turkey bacon.
  • Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze up to 3 months.
