A fruity, smoky, tangy blueberry BBQ sauce that transforms grilled meats, seafood, and veggies into summer favorites.

Base Sauce:
- 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
- ½ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
- ¼ cup maple syrup or brown sugar
Seasonings & Spices:
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
- Optional: pinch of cayenne or chipotle powder
Instructions
- Simmer the Base: In a medium saucepan, combine blueberries, ketchup, vinegar, and maple syrup. Heat over medium until bubbling.
- Add the Aromatics: After 5 minutes, stir in mustard, paprika, garlic and onion powder, salt, pepper, and optional heat.
- Reduce and Thicken: Simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring often, until thick and deep in color.
- Blend: Remove from heat and puree using an immersion blender or cool slightly and blend in batches. Strain for a silky finish.
- Cool & Adjust: Let cool, then taste. Adjust vinegar or salt as needed. Ready to serve or store.
Notes
- Use fresh or frozen blueberries.
- Swap maple syrup with honey, agave, or coconut sugar.
- White balsamic or rice vinegar work as mild alternatives.
- Store in fridge up to 2 weeks, or freeze up to 3 months.
- Water-bath can for long-term pantry storage.
