Description

A fruity, smoky, tangy blueberry BBQ sauce that transforms grilled meats, seafood, and veggies into summer favorites.


Ingredients

Base Sauce:

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup maple syrup or brown sugar

Seasonings & Spices:

  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Optional: pinch of cayenne or chipotle powder

Instructions

  1. Simmer the Base: In a medium saucepan, combine blueberries, ketchup, vinegar, and maple syrup. Heat over medium until bubbling.
  2. Add the Aromatics: After 5 minutes, stir in mustard, paprika, garlic and onion powder, salt, pepper, and optional heat.
  3. Reduce and Thicken: Simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring often, until thick and deep in color.
  4. Blend: Remove from heat and puree using an immersion blender or cool slightly and blend in batches. Strain for a silky finish.
  5. Cool & Adjust: Let cool, then taste. Adjust vinegar or salt as needed. Ready to serve or store.

Notes

  • Use fresh or frozen blueberries.
  • Swap maple syrup with honey, agave, or coconut sugar.
  • White balsamic or rice vinegar work as mild alternatives.
  • Store in fridge up to 2 weeks, or freeze up to 3 months.
  • Water-bath can for long-term pantry storage.
