Welcome to Recipes Worth Trying!

Hi, I’m Keyla Stewart — home cook, recipe writer, and firm believer that food doesn’t have to be fancy to matter.
I didn’t grow up in a family of chefs. But I grew up in a family where food meant something.
My grandma made gumbo with a wooden spoon that looked older than me. My uncle grilled catfish in a backyard that always smelled like hickory and hot sauce. Nothing was over the top, but it was made with love — and that made all the difference.
I still remember the first time I made cornbread on my own. It wasn’t perfect — a little too crumbly, a little too sweet — but when my cousins asked for more, I felt something shift.
That’s when I realized food isn’t about impressing people — it’s about feeding them.
In the years since, I’ve taught myself to cook in tiny kitchens, flipping through old family recipes, scribbling notes in the margins, and learning by doing (and sometimes redoing).
I’ve burned my fair share of biscuits. I’ve cried over split gravy. But I’ve also fallen head over heels for the way food brings people together — how it holds memories, tells stories, and makes ordinary days feel a little more special.
These days, I cook and write from my small kitchen in Charleston, South Carolina. The windows are usually open, there’s music playing, something bubbling on the stove, and a dog hoping I’ll drop something.
This little corner of the internet is where I share the kind of food I love most — the kind that feels familiar, comforting, a little nostalgic, and full of heart.

My Cooking Style
I believe in slow Sundays when there’s time — and shortcuts when there isn’t.
I measure garlic with my heart and write recipes the way I’d explain them to a friend.
I don’t chase food trends — I cook what feels good, what tastes like home, what makes people stay at the table a little longer.
Let’s Stay in Touch
If something you find here brings you comfort, sparks a memory, or just makes dinner a little easier — that’s the best compliment I could ask for.
You’ll usually find me at the kitchen counter, laptop open, coffee getting cold, and flour on everything I own.
Thanks for stopping by. There’s always a seat at the table.
